Rounds 5 and 6 were at Cadwell Park with mixed weather it turned out to be a great event.
Round 5
Round 5 started in tricky conditions that would only prove to get trickier. With fog and light rain for the morning practice, it was hard going for all the competitors. The paddock was without some of the championship competitors today but with still a good healthy grid. The practice did not go according to plan, the lack of grip proving difficult to get a good time finishing with a middle of the order time.
Qualifying was again in light rain but with the rain likely to make the track worse an early outing onto the track for a timed lap was needed, my first timed lap on the best of the track was good enough for pole position as the track conditions worsened throughout the session.
The race came and again it was wet. Starting on pole I got off the line well but the Caterham did better and lead into the first corner, but a mistake during braking at turn 3 meant I could slip though and take the lead. Using the clearer visibility the leader benefits from and best of the conditions I tried to build a lead but as the rain continued to fall and the track got wetter the lap times dropped seeing me slip back into the clutches of 2nd place, a front-wheel drive Megan who was finding better lap times in the testing conditions. He took the lead with about 3 laps to go and I maintained second to finish second overall and first in class, my first class win.
Round 6
Round 6 was in the dry and qualifying went well, having struggled for grip in the previous race the car now felt glued to the road and good lap saw another pole position. This time I got off the line well and kept the lead into the first corner and kept my head down to develop a gap and mark off the laps and finally get my first overall win.
With a good haul of points from this weekend’s race meeting has seen me jump up the leader board to 3rd overall and 2nd in class.
I look forward to next weekend’s race back at Oulton Park for the Fosters layout.
